3D-Printing Services Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Your privacy is important to us. Each response to requests through the website, automatically includes an NDA that covers our employee confidentiality obligations. Additionally, any content you see on Cardinal 3dp social media is posted only with written permission granted by our clients. Sometimes our customers are bringing a product to market and appreciate the extra help with their marketing efforts.

We have customers from across the United States and are pleased to offer nationwide shipping if you
are unable to pick up your order in person.

Yes. It is our policy to send a TDS for all filaments and resins used. We only use products that have appropriate documentation.

We may not be in the business of photography, but we do have a small lighting studio to help clients
display and document newly created projects.

3D printing is currently one of most reliable and economically friendly processes for creating and perfecting production parts. Utilizing this technology allows our clients the opportunity to refine their designs with less upfront investment than that of mass production companies.

Absolutely! 3D printing is efficient, affordable, and reliable for enterprises both large and small. About
half of our clients are individuals or businesses with fewer than ten employees.

Production time varies depending on the technology, material, finish, size, print orientation, etc. Once we understand your project, your Cardinal 3dp representative will be able to offer an accurate estimate of product completion.

The most common formats we receive files in are: STL, OBJ, STEP and IGES.
Please contact us for a complete list of accepted formats.

Yes, we are happy to accommodate most requests. It is, however, important to note that supports and
other factors can influence how smooth or “clean” a print is. Our team is happy to discuss options with
you and offer suggestions if needed.

Post processing, we remove any supports and go through the required curing time for resin products.
While we don’t offer kitting or finishing services (such as painting or air brushing), we are able to provide
light sanding and assembly as well as smoothing and annealing. For FDM prints, we can offer certain
colors depending on the material being used. This includes dual extrusion (two colors).

This depends on your specific needs and final product expectations. Resin generally offers a smoother
appearance with less visible layer lines. Some FDM Filaments hide the layer lines better than others. This
is something your representative will discuss with you prior to placing your order.

Supports are used to create stability in prints with overhangs greater than 45 degrees (though there are
times we can push these limits). Supports are easily removed from the product once the print is
finished. This is done prior to shipping unless otherwise requested.

Some products (PLA, for example) do not hold up well when exposed to heat. Things like sitting in a
warm environment, such as a car in summertime, will allow for unwanted movement or warping.
Certain resin products become brittle due to UV overexposure when exposed to direct sunlight. We are
always careful to talk through the pros and cons of any material.

This is a long list. We use both open-source printers and printers that require specific resins or filaments.
Open-source printers allow for a wide range of materials to be used, while printers requiring specific
materials generally offer repeatable results with that specific material.

The answer here depends on the project. Please reach out to us and we will be happy to discuss any
options we can offer.

If you don’t see the specific size or technology you need listed here on the website, please reach out.
We are continually growing and evolving, so it might be available in the shop, but not yet added to the
website.
